The level of noise around us is constantly increasing, and is affecting the quality of our lives. What cause the noise? What should be done about it?

Noise pollution has become one of the major causes that affect people’s well-being in modern society, and various reasons lead to this problem. This essay will list factors that result in this issue and propose solutions to help tackle it.

Unquestionably, annoying sound primarily comes from automobiles in modern times. In the past, when there were not many vehicles on the road, people could enjoy a relatively quiet community. While in the contemporary era, the number of cars on the road has significantly increased largely due to the burgeoning economy. People rely on cars to work, shop or travel. As a result, noise has become unavoidable. Another important factor that leads to noise pollution is because of the population expansion and urbanisation. Due to this trend, more land has been exploited for humans’ accommodation. Consequently, those farms and plants are surrounded by residential buildings. So, residents have to endure disturbing sound.

In terms of solutions, in my opinion, far and away the most important thing to do is to encourage people to use public transportations as much as possible. This can substantially reduce the number of cars on the road and hence curtail the noise. Also, government should pass laws to restrict excessive noise around communities and schools where people’s normal activities are easily to be disturbed. More importantly, authorities should choose to build communities far away from manufacturing centres, so residents will not need to bear annoying sound from factories.

In conclusion, noises in modern times mainly caused by cars and factories, and governments should play a critical role in terms of curbing the noise on the road and carefully plan the residential buildings.
