Some people think zoos are cruel and all the zoos should be closed. Some other people think zoos are useful for the protection of rare animals. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

In order to protect animals from being disturbing by human, nowadays, some people argue that the government should shut down the zoos all. In fact, I believe this suggestion is too extreme and fail to respond the essential of this issue.

It has to be conceded that there are some zoos treating the animals very badly. And inhuman behaviors occasionally happen. For instance, I have heard about one zoo that sent its old and retired black bears to a pharmaceutical company so that both of them can make profit. Another consideration is the freedom-right of animals. Similar to us people, animals have emotion; they can feel happy, excited, depressed and pained as well. If they are always restricted in small cages where sometimes just allow them to lie down, could they be happy? Also, they might never have the chance to access the nature any more, which is really unfair to them.

Regard to some rare animals, they are struggling in the edge of extinction; hence the help from mankind is inevitable. Being leaved outside in the wild, they probably disappear more quickly than they are in the zoos, since they have to face the threat of the predator or the inadequate food. Besides, keeping the scarce animals in zoos helps the zoo staffs to know more about their life habits, which is conducive to foster their next generations and avoid them from dying out. An example to be mentioned is the panda. It is therefore why the existence of zoos is of the essential.

The issue of how to minimize the harm to animals, in my view, is not about whether the zoos should be totally closed or not, but about the way that people treat the animals. Obviously, if someone only think about the profit, that even the animals are free back to the nature they will keep hunting. Still the animals would undergo the cruelty. In other worlds, that is really a nightmare to the disappearing animals.
