Some people believe that there should be a single international language. Others believe that this would make it difficult to maintain the identity of cultures. What is your opinion?

As a means of simplifying the communication between different ethnic groups, international language now is advocated by many people. However, promoting such a language in the worldwide definitely harms the cultural identity.

First and foremost, the thousands of languages we are using now would go extinct gradually. Developing a single international language means all our next generations are taught in this language since he or she is a little child. They learn it at schools; speak it at home; using it to communicate with their parents and friends. They are so unfamiliar with their national languages. Unfortunately, the existence of our native languages is depending on our next generation. As a consequence, our own languages disappear.

Another point is language contains the traditional customs. With a history of thousands years, the traditional language is not only a language itself, but also the history of culture. We can trace the ancestor through the traditional language, getting to know their lifestyles, customs and environments. That is because the language was formed thousands years ago. It kept being changed constantly in this period and, passed by one generation to another generation. It is national treasures handed down from our ancestor. Throw away the traditional language means throwing away our national cultures.

Even worse, if everyone in this planet speaks the same languages, are we special? That is of course not. We are the unique nation as we using the various languages. Undoubtedly, such a international language takes away individuality. Maybe international language promotes the understanding of other different languages, but it cost the comprehension of native cultural. It bases on the lost of identity.

Nowadays, we have witnessed many minority languages died out, we really do not have to see more traditional cultures disappear again.
