With the rise in popularity of the internet, newspapers will soon become a thing of the past. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Currently, the more the society develops, the more important the Internet’s role is. Its influences expand from urban to rural, from country to country. Some people believe that the Internet is gradually replacing newspapers as a means of transmitting information and one day newspapers exists no more. In my point of view, the day on which newspapers disappears will never come because its some functions cannot be replaced.
To begin with, there is no doubt that the Internet is one of great inventions of human. It has contributed a significant part to the development of the society, especially in the economy and communication. We are living in a world at which all information is more and more complicated and people should update news as soon as possible. With a computer, they can access the internet wherever and whenever they want, approaching to news about political, economic and social events all over the world. Moreover, the internet is also the background of most working environments like banks, corporations, etc. Not only does the Internet shrink the distance between people and information but also reduce the cost for publishing newspapers which will be thrown away after having no more uses.
Albeit the Internet is very convenient and necessary for daily life, is has some disadvantages as a consequence of modern life. For instance, the internet’s operation depends on a sophisticated devices system including a computer, a cable or wifi-catching part and electricity. People can enter the internet only when all things above work together. So if the electricity is turned off, the possibility of accessing the internet is unavailable.
Another reason explains why newspapers is the better choice for many people is that not everybody can afford for such expensive machines. Newspapers is much cheaper than a computer. Furthermore, newspapers is suitable for people who find a computer hard to use or do not work indoors such as the elderly, drivers…
On balance, there is no reason to stop newspapers. It is always one of the essential mass media and cannot be eliminated in spite of the rise in popularity of the Internet.
