(0 votes) In some countries, TV programmes are transmitted throughout the day and night. Some people think that 24-hour TV transmission is a positive development, while others it is negative. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Nowadays, even when you turn on TV in midnight you can still watch TV programs. Some people think 24-hour TV is convenient for them to watch TV at anytime, while opponents criticize 24-hour TV is just wasting time and social resources. In my opinion advantages or disadvantages of 24-hour TV can be judged by contents of programs not how long TV programs should be transmitted.
Firstly, 24-hour transmission meets some special spectators’ demands on TV programs. For example, 24-hour sports programs can provide sports fans with wonderful sports matches no matter where the competitions are held. Sports fans can overcome time differences to appreciate attracted match meeting their spiritual demand in the middle night. These sports fans may be the main power for 24-hour TV’s operators. Apart from recreational motivation, some emergent and important events need 24-hour TV to inform the billions of people on this planet, such as Arabic spring in northern Africa and earthquake inJapanlast year. 24-hour TV transmission help ordinaries know truth and help professional obtain valuable information. In these occasions only 24-hour successive transmission can reveal the truth and record the whole process, which is of valuable contribution to society.
However, either great matches or resounding events is not normal. According to a research most part of midnight TV programs are repeating old news or films, which is actually wasting resource and killing time. Furthermore, most people surely fall asleep in midnight, therefore, 24-hours running of equipments in TV net waste social resource such as electrical consumption and maintenance cost. What worse is that some couch potatoes will long time indulge in watching TV, which damage their physical and mental health.
In conclusion, 24-hour TV transmission can meet people’s special demands in some occasions although sometimes it is useless even harmful for spectators. We should treat this trend according to what the 24-hour TV transmit not the time length of the TV programs.
